Managing unwanted hair can be time-consuming and annoying when using traditional hair removal methods such as waxing, shaving, or plucking. Laser hair removal is a long-lasting, safe, and effective way to remove unwanted facial and body hair. During a laser hair removal treatment, we use a concentrated beam of light aimed at the hair, which is absorbed by the pigment in your hair and damages the follicle to help inhibit future growth.

Laser hair removal can be used to effectively treat large areas, as well as small and delicate areas. We typically perform laser hair removal on the face, especially the upper lip and chin, bikini area, neck, chest, back, and shoulders.

Laser hair removal typically requires between 2 to 6 treatments, and most patients are free of unwanted hair for several months or even years. After laser hair removal treatments, many patients report noticing both less hair and finer and lighter-colored hair than they had prior to laser hair removal treatments.

Market Street Dermatology Gender Dysphoria Laser Hair Removal Policy

Some insurance plans cover laser hair removal for gender dysphoria. Laser hair removal can improve the symptoms of gender dysphoria and increase the safety of transgender patients.

Areas that we medically treat include the face, neck, and those required for the preparation of gender-affirming surgical procedures. Insurance coverage varies by plan. For us to submit a prior authorization to insurance to confirm coverage, we will need a referral from a medical provider that includes a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, or from a surgeon requesting treatment of specific areas required for gender-affirming surgery.
