Melasma
Melasma is a common skin condition that causes brown or gray patches on sun-exposed areas, most commonly the face and arms. It is more women and people with darker skin tones, and is triggered by sun exposure, hormones, and other genetic factors. Protecting your skin from the sun with broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential for managing the appearance of melasma. Treatments can include creams with lightening agents like hydroquinone, oral medications such as tranexamic acid as well as procedures like chemical peels, lasers and microneedling. Melasma can be persistent and may return even after treatment, so ongoing care and sun protection are always important.
