Alopecia (Hair Loss)
Hair loss, also called alopecia, can affect people of all ages and genders. There are many different types of hair loss which range from non-scarring forms like male or female-pattern baldness and alopecia areata (an autoimmune form of hair loss), as well as scarring types that can cause permanent hair loss. Treatment depends on the type of hair loss and may include topical and/or oral medications such as minoxidil, finasteride, steroids, or newer biologic medications. It is important that hair loss be evaluated by a licensed dermatologist, as successful outcomes depend on accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment.
